Does anyone have any recommendations for a cheap solution to getting a set of SunRace gears on a horrible BSO usable by the weak wrists of my partners daughter?
Had a quick set up check of the beautiful pink full sus catalogue bike last night and whilst I understand it's limitations, I would at least like to get the thing usable!
The 6spd Gripshifter can only be wrenched round to the lower gears with extreme effort (it's hard work for me - a 6ft something gorrilla!).
I've stripped the setup and it all runs free with no binding, it just appears to be a very hard derailleur spring coupled with little mechanical advantage at the shifter.
I notice Islabikes use SRAM X3/4 which can be had for ~£25 including a bonus gear with a 7spd freewheel, but then I'd need to add a dropout mech hanger and start messing about more than I'd like given the nature of the machine...
Has anyone mananged to reduce the effort required on el cheapo gears with a little re-engineering?
Change the cables before you do anything drastic, making sure the new outers and inners are thoroughly degreased. Costs pennnies and makes a significant difference.
Mate bought a set of these : http://r.ebay.com/BRKMPI for his boy's bike.
Very easy shifting and dead cheap.
Can you mail me I think I have revo shift that are the easiest moving ones I know off - mine went 9 speed hence i have them
I think it is 6 speed and they will be very cheap postage and a few quid
^^ What a nice man 🙂
