Looking for a ride this weekend but fancy something really rural and natural. I live about 30 mins from wooler so was thinking something up into the cheviots, but ive never been into them - hangs head in shame!

Does anyone have a decent route tucked away - i had a look at google maps but its quite hard to work out if the tracks are rideable. I have this great countryside on my doorstep yet I drive past it to get to GT or across to Whinlatter, its nonsense.

Not sure how close, but we rode out of Alwinton the other week - is that Cheviouts?! Was a really nice ride, although there was a bit of old military fireroad in it. Felt like you got away from things though ๐Ÿ™‚ Download our route from:

STS - thanks - will look at that.

Do you ride with the mid air lot? I was meant to come along for a ride one day but never got round to joining you.

There is plenty of riding starting from Wooler. Try heading out on Common Road, stay to the left and head over to Carey Burn, then back via Earle. I haven't got a more precise description as it is ages ago I used to ride there, but with a map you'll find a nice loop. There is also some nice singletrack around Kenterdale Hill, just up from Earle. And you'll hardly meet anyone around there, even at the weekends!

The loop Sven mentions is in Derek Purdys book, Broadstruther loop - Wooler common, hells path, broadstruther,Hawsen burn, langleeford, then back to Wooler via skirl naked.

From Alwinton heading up onto the border ridge and Windy Gyle is a good ride out, especially on the slabs at the top, loads of other bridleways up there as well.

Ingram to Linhope, then low bleakhope, Ewartley shank, Alnham, prendwick then back to Ingram is ok as well.
