What are people wearing? I have just worn out my latest pair of Five tens and at £90 odd am looking for a cheeper replacement. I doubt anything will be as good as the stealth rubber but I am happy(ish) to compromise a bit to save a few quid, with out resorting to my walking boots which do not grip at all!

Wasnt the dry weather nice while it lasted sigh!

I have five tens, which are really good, but yesterday I couldn't find them, and I wore a £20 pair of vans from TK Maxx instead. They were almost as good tbh - this was on some very technical riding too.

TkMaxx always has some cheap skate shoes. There were some cheap Nike 6.0 on eBay recently, also check SurfDome, they had some Nike on sale. I have no idea if they are any good on flats as I use spd's but couple of my mates ride in skate style shoes on flats with no problems.

Either cheapo Vans/skate shoes from TK Maxx or a set of Shimano MP90/AM40/AM41 which are cheaper than 5-10s and pretty darned good (still more than the cheapo skate shoes though).

and pretty grippy too. Had mine for a couple of years and the sole is falling apart from the pins, but they are vaguely waterproof and lasted a remarkably long time

I was using Nike 6 but forgot them and ended up using some old goal trainer I was wearing. White leather things. Turns out they are amazing just look a bit odd.

If you know your size for Etnies, Vans, Airwalk etc then ebay is as always bargaintastic... especially if you like/love/want/can-live-with dodgy colours.

Etnies do some fab "Mid" with ankle protection.

Nike 6.0 at Evans are £30-40 at the moment.

I use some for messing around riding. Not as grippy as a 5.10 but inbetween that & a skate shoe. Well recommended.

I always, or rather used to, use Nike 6.0. You can usually find the less desirable colourways in the sales. Last few pairs cost around £20-30.

I wear last years trail walking trainers for riding this years flats flats. Normally Merrells but this year Keens. The Keens have mental grip on my DMRs (sometimes have to wiggle foot to disconnect) and on steep rough hike-ya-bike sections. Also the soles are relatively stiff. Yes they are a bit tatty but when they're covered in mud does it really matter?

FFS you lot! one of the advantages of using flat pedals is that you no longer have to wear ugly shoes. 🙄
