Looking for a set of road wheels about the £250 mark

want something light as possible for tri racing on but am avoiding deep section or spending big money. Cartridge bearings a must

Any bargains about?

Found shimano factory builds a little flimsy if you try to put some power down over rough roads or you're heavy. Mavic factory builts are much better, I'd shop around for some mavic ksyriums, you'll be able to find some for around that price.

Don't have cartridge bearings though.

I'd get Novatec hubs, Alpha rims and Revolution spokes. Far lighter than anything you'll buy off the shelf. Sub-1300g.

why do you need them 'light as possible for tri racing'?

Triathlons are usually just TTs, where weight isn't anywhere near as important as aero.

As soon as these come back in stock i'll be placing an order:

Failing that Fulcrum 5s are quite cheap at the moment!

Reggie gasket - cos it's a convenient excuse for being slow - aero wheels are usually spendy as well - if you know of any in my price bracket I'll add them to the list

thanks all will check 'em out

quite a few seem to sell this wheel all with different names and at different prices

http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/WPPXAL30/planet_x_al30_wheelset

http://www.cycledivision.co.uk/product-info.php?pid133.html

Kinlin rims and bitrex hubs they all seem to be with Pillar spokes

I sent my CERO wheels back as on arrival they were so similar (rims and spokes the same (slight difference to hubs and skewers to my my mates planet x wheels - well apart from the £200 extra!

Ordered some Fulcrum Quattro now instead.

They've gone up a bit, but I got some of these for £225 last year and they are ace wheels, done well over 2k miles on them since and never had to put the spoke key on them yet and bearings still spin for ages;-

They're not really though are they, the first part is subjective, the second part, whilst relative, is not really the case considering their cost.

My handbuilts were £250: Open Pro CD, DT revs, alloy nipples, Ambrosio zenith hubs. Two years on, they're running perfectly true.

Rubbish. The majority of the pro peleton are riding Shimano factory wheelsets this year, and whilst they're not heavy, they put down a lot more power than you or I!

I have Ultegras and Dura Ace C24s and they're amazing wheels - considerably cheaper than an equivalent spec Mavic wheel too.

Why do they need to be sealed bearings? Cup and cone are no trouble at all on road wheels...

I have a set of rs 80's and they are blinding wheels.. Well priced/light and spin well.. Just once rim wears out I have
Nice ornaments 🙁

Cost of getting them re-rimmed is silly hence I'm now on mavic/pro 3 .. Similar weight and easier to replace rims
Once needed 🙂

I'm also interested in this as I was planning on spending £350 on the Cero's from Cycle Division (in stock 10th June), but I'm interested in the Supra RA30's for less if thy are more or less the same.

I was also condidering the Shimano RS80's.

Instead of alphas (which are crazy expensive) i went with the kinlin xr200 with novatech hubs. THe kinlin is actually lighter than the alpha 340 and costs £30 (alpha 340 £79 on wiggle)

Lovely light wheelset. Also on roger mussons advice i didn't bother with cx rays or other lightweight spokes

I expect they're using Dura Ace, which are rather more than £250.
