Had a ride today in exposed Northumberland -1 in the car but a hefty breeze. I got a really cold chest through my Aldi special softshell - the crane sports one that has served me well for a while.
I like the look of the Montane Dyno but cant afford one at the moment. I went to GOoutdoors but other than the Regatta ones everything was £100+.
Any recommendations for something at the £40 level? Would like it to be a bit more wind resistant and breathable ish. Will this exist at this price?
I would like to wear it off the bike too - nipping to shops, pubs etc. What is out there?
decathlon had some cheapies (non cycle specific).
no experience of it, but meant to be ok I heard.

No go on Deacathlon for me. The nearest one is Hrs away (I'm North of Newcastle)
Decathlon do online orders now
I just got a nice Animal one from one of their shops on sale @£46
OP wear another layer, £40 will get you a warmer softshell but it will weigh a ton.
if you are a 'hot person'aka sweat like zindane then most hotshells will be a boil in the bag unless it is freezing as it has been over last couple of weeks, thinner ones such as the Marmot tempo are ideal and recommended by Matt in one of the reviews a couple of years ago, mine has been excellent. Decathlon ones are great value at £50, try TK maxx regatta one for 22.00 in clearance.
Agree with the extra layer idea above, like a gillet/windproof vest thingy.
I got a charge surface, think it was about 50Quid, it replaced my crane special. It is better than the crane and works well for me though I run quite hot generally.
After closer inspection I found a Montane Dyno for 50 at Amazon. Will give it a go I can always return it. Also Montane are only 15miles from me so helping a local company 🙂
Normally wear a HH Lifa as a base layer but could do with finding a layer in between a SS and a base layer.
Just bought a Montane featherlight velo jacket for £40. Not used it yet but it received favourable reviews on the CRC website. I wanted a pertex type material as I boil up when wearing gore-tex.
