I have an 11speed set up on my mtb and want to change to electric mainly due to an arthritic thumb. As well as the actual shifter kit I obviously need a new cassette and chain. Can I get away with using an ordinary narrow wide ring? Will one of the 12sp cassettes which fit on HG freehubs be ok? And what’s cheapest, AXS or Deore Di2 and from where?

I've seen a few AXS mk 1 appearing on ebay if you don't mind second hand?

Wait til my new eBike arrives and I'll sell you the AXS gubbins... If you can wait that long... it's an Amflow!
I picked up an X01 AXS mech & battery, X01 cassette and 3x chains (used but the chains are sadly too short for both my high pivot bikes), and a GX shifter off of Marketplace for £125 the other day. There are bargains to be had if you look .
A 12spd AliExpress HG cassette will be fine, as will XD (XD 10-50t can be had for <£60).
A mate also got new, what looks to be genuine, and working Deore Di2 from there for <£350 delivered.

which is a wireless adapter that straps to your seatstay. I picked one up abut a year ago for about £90, so they've gone up a bit.
TBH it was OK once setup but I didn't like the ergonomics of the 'ring' shifter.

LT-Woo have been promising their eTX MTB setup but it's not materialised for sale yet, but this hybrid setup has, using an as yet unreleased eRX road mech and the push button MTB shifter. if you find a few codes (AliX normally pops a few up), you may pick it up for around £160. I had it in my basket a couple of weeks ago for £120, but bailed on buying!.
the software is OK, micro adjust each sprocket to set up and set on anything up to 13 speed.
that way you can keep the 11 speed cassette, chain and chainring.
If its not horrendously worn, the chainring will work fine (inner dimensions of the 12 speed chain are the same)
shimano deore level will get you a HG fitting 11-50 cassette. Options from companies other than the big S's may be cheaper.
Either original sram AXS - I think branded "eagle" - or shimano will all work together pretty much.
The new sram - branded "transmission" - needs its special cassette, special chain, and a UDH mount on your frame which if it came with 11 speed, your frame may be too old to have this making it a complete non-starter.

they did, x shifter was similar, but the Ltwoo one is exactly the same as the original. works quite well really, just the shifter isn't very nice, though they will work with the axs type ltwoo shifter now that's a thing
