I'm looking for a HRM/stopwatch/cadence device to use with my turbo trainer.
I've got an Iphone 5 but think I'd prefer a separate device.
Can any users offer any wisdom?

I think the cheapest option would be to buy a BT Smart cadence sensor & HRM (which can connect to your iPhone directly) and use the iPhone as the head unit.

If you didn't want to use your iPhone you'd have to use something else as the head unit, probably using an ANT+ cadence sensor/HRM as that's much more common. You could use a laptop/PC with an ANT+ USB stick and either Trainer Road or Golden Cheetah (free), or a standalone unit like a Garmin 500 or equivalent Bryton.

there are some pretty good Cateye products that come in much cheaper than a Garmin

these don't have GPS (but you dont need that on a turbo0 and they are quite a neat solution

I got a Cateye Stealth 50 from the Classifieds on here then just bought Decathlon's cheapo speed/cadence and HRM sensors. Works well as a system, the Cateye Atlas site is a bit odd for logging but at least you can export your data to GPX to upload elsewhere, and it'll sync to Strava and TrainingPeaks automatically.
