Hi, I'm after advise of the cheapest way of getting proper map navigation for riding in the wilderness.

I already have a old Garmin Edge 500, but that only gives you a line to follow, with no background information or map, and its got me a little lost in the past.

I'm not keen on using my mobile, as I have tried it before, and while it works, the fear of bricking my phone puts me off, plus my phone is massive and it looks daft strapped to the bars.

Whats the cheapest Garmin or similar, with proper map navigation.
Not bothered if its the newest model, just need something that will show me where I am, and which muddy path in the middle of nowhere i'm supposed to be on.

Thanks in advance

You'll get a Dakota off ebay for not very much. Takes AA batteries so no worry about the internal battery being goosed.

Cheapest with decent mapping is a phone. It doesn't have to be your main phone. Just buy a second hand one for £50 or so.

A Garmin edge touring can be picked up for less than £50 on eBay. Colour screen and nav but no bells and whistles - I've the official full UK OS maps on an SD card in mine that cost about £20 (also eBay).
