Anyone recommend a cheapish but decent workstand, don't need anything top not but must be solid enough.

The Aldi one's are good.

You might have to wait a bit though, they only do them once a year.

I'm sure you can get the same thing with a different name on it for not much more.

I've got one of the 60 quid decathlon ones and it works like a champ, very happy with it

I just got one new from ebay. Was told it's very similar to the Aldi/Lidl ones. I'd include a link but ebay's not working atm.

It cost just over £33 and had free postage (that only took 2 days) so go have a search. Well impressed with mine, very solid and holds my 5 perfectly.

You don't want a cheap workstand but a good value one.

Another vote for the Aldi £30 workstands, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.

[EDIT] found a photo of it for you

It seems robust enough, but tbh I haven't owned it long enough to make a proper judgement on its longevity.

The one on Merlin for £63 is very good, but the same design can be had under many different names for differing prices. Cheapest I have seen it is about £40. I think I got mine from Merlin for about £45 a while back.

Sounds like I got the same one off Ebay as chestrockwell - which is the same as the Aldi one, and plenty good for everyday tinkering, and is exactly the same as this: Aldi stand
The only thing I would say is that the rotational arm that holds the bike isn't held firmly enough by the clamp to allow you to hold the bike nose down for long. But a simple bungee rope around wheel/stand leg sorts this out.
