[#6272272]

Bought some new toys for #1 bike and pretty much decided to sell the dh bike so that should see me coming out with most of the parts needed to build some sort of inexpensive blunt axe of a thing, to take a bit of strain off my ego-chariot 😉

So... What to look at? The Lyriks are u-turn, set at 170mm (though can convert easily back to 160 and in theory can go up to 180). The wheels and groupset are all standard- 135/73. Whatever it is, has to be slack, tough and under... Let's say £400. Ideally coily and with iscg mounts. I like tapered and 1.5 headsets for geometry-messing but that's just a bonus. Oh and I'm disqualifying the SX Trail because I had one and didn't like it, so that probably takes out Enduros as well.

Patriot seems obvious, Commencal Mini, Intense Slopestyle 1s... Reign X? Stuff like that but it's not a sort of bike I've ever really paid much attention to. I'm not falling for that "mini dh" thing, it's just the cheapest way to do it I think!

Voltage! Yes, perfect. Might be a push at the price but otherwise couldn't be better.

Did wonder about hardtails but decided against it, my Ragley's bloody good on the way down anyway, definitely got to be a bouncer.

Picked up one last year - ran it with 160 front / 170 rear. It'll take any shock size from 216/63 to 240/76 (100 - 180mm) and any fork from 100 to 200mm travel

Can't remember if it had 1.5 or tapered headtube but it was slack and fun.

Eventually got mine down to 31lb and 160mm f/r. Really good downhill 😉

Voltages are great bikes, they jump really well and are loads of fun to ride.

Yeah, Voltage was actually high on my list before I got the Herb but I think I'd just mentally put it down as too nice 🙂 But if I can find one in the price range, it wins really.

Ooh, nice... I was going to say I didn't like the Blood, but the one I rode was the ridiculous version with the 140mm 32s. It's even the right colour...
