Hi guys

After some advice on a set of cheap flat pedals for trail riding and some good (but cheap) shoes that will work well with the pedals. Im an SPD come Crank Bros Mallet man, and was wondering if flats may increase my confidence a little so wouldn't mind giving them a try without breaking the bank. Nuke proof electrons have caught my eyes at £35? Thanks in advance.

if you want cheap skate shoes have a look at the offerings on sports directs website. £20ish should get you a set of airwalk trainers which should work well with flats.

+1 for Nukeproof Electrons. I bought some last week at Llandegla when I forgot to pack my spd shoes. After 20 years of spd's I was converted and they're staying on the bike. Just need some shoes now instead of trashing my trainers.

Who sells the 5:10s for £32?

Been using various cheap skate shoes for a while but a few weeks ago bought a pair of 5:10 Spitfires @£52. Big, big improvement in grip and sole stiffness making them far more comfortable for longer rides, so in my experience cheapness may be a false economy. Using with Wellgo B185 pedals (£30 and 324g) and B143 pedals (£35 and 385g)which are standing up to plenty of abuse.

I used DMR V8's and various Etnies for years. Never had any issue apart from lack of grip for pushing the bike up slippy muddy slopes!!

Get pedal in the middle of the foot and be soft on them, bendy knees, and you shouldn't get bounced of them.

I have just gone back to spd's though..............

After years on V8 (copies, i'm a cheapskate) I decided to try something different and went for nukeproofs as CRC had them at a stupid price. Amazed at the difference.

I wear duffs trainers as you can pick up old pairs for next to nothing.

Anyone got any feedback on Shimano AM41's? I use the 45's and well impressed with them so could the 41's be worth a dig? Seen them floating about for around £65

I love mine and if you're okay with the looks, I'd say they're worth it

I'm using Superstar Nanotech pedals with £20 airwalk shoes from sportsdirect as suggested above, works really well.

I didn't know you could get 5:10s so cheap, will have to think about that 🙂
