Hi

I've got an itch to scratch.

Quite fancy a fat bike.

I dont want to spend a lot to bein with. But if I spend like £300 on a used cheaper end bike will it put me off?

Something like a Voodoo or similar.

I had a Voodoo. I sold it and got a Calibre Dune. It's a better bike if you can find one.

I still ride mine very regularly years later. Love it.

But if I spend like £300 on a used cheaper end bike will it put me off?

In my experience, no.
Get a decent base and upgrade the important stuff as you go like brakes, dropper, tyres.

The way to approach fatbikes imho is to forget about trying to make the bike the best bike it can be on the terrain.
Enjoy the fact that it's a cartoon bike.
Mine still makes me smile because it's ridiculous. Still very, very capable having said that.

The voodoo's a solid bike, I'd agree that the Dune is better but they're not so easy to find used (and they do have a little bit of a rep for breaking now, though mine's fine). It's definitely going to be mostly about what you can find and you could do a lot worse than either of these.

One thing I would say though is I reckon fatbikes absolutely live and die by the tyres, especially for trailbike use. And good ones tend to be expensive.

Voodoo is a good starter, the Calibre Dune is better I'd say. But like northwind said, tyres are almost more important than anything else and good ones are £80-£150 a pop (if you can find them). It also depends on the type of riding your intending to do, jumbo Jim's are good for rolling resistance and so better on bridal ways and canal paths, Surly and  45nrth make some amazingly grippy trail tyres but cause more drag as a result.

Have a look on the Farcebook Fat Bike groups. There is currently an On One fatty up for £190, there are a few bargains (plus a couple of Charge Fattys @ less than £300 too)

I was going to recommend the Facebook group. There’s been a steady stream of decent bikes going for realistic prices for some time now.

As with everything, the more money the better it is....on one are a good shout, my son has one, I myself have a Rose Tusker...imo it's a better bike, for one I can put 4.8 tyres on where as On One 4.15 are the limit on the rear, but the great news is....fat bikes are pretty cheap these days especially used.
To me my fatty is my bestest funnest bike I own

Thanks guys.

The style of riding I do is no longer about trying to be quickest down the hill - or up it for that matter - so I'm more into having fun on the bike and exploring at a leisurely pace.

I'll check out the FB page. See what's going near me.

Cheers

I have a Dune that I have been meaning to sell as it’s just taking garage space.
It’s not even cracked, and will be under your budget with spare for tyres.
PM me if interested
