where's cheap with bike hire and preferably warmer weather?.. probably looking at at September/October
would like to be able to stay in a hostel if possible to keep costs down and for some company as id be going alone
on the list ATM is:
Canary Islands
Spain
Greece?
have not researched extensively yet
any comments/ideas?

I went to Portugal last May, I flew to Faro (cheap) then headed to Lagos. I did this in order to get some cycling in with the Mountain Bike Adventure. I stayed in a youth hostel in Lagos (YHA one) hired a bike with MBA and rode with them for a few days. Good cycling, Jim the guy that runs it is a great guide and you'll have at least him for company if there's no one else cycling! He can also arrange accommodation, so for my last night I went for a bit of ensuite luxury 🙂
Portugal is a good shout and Lagos is a really nice place to stay, it's got plenty of good restaurants and bars etc and the nightlife is good if your after that too. We went out for a day trip with Mountain bike adventure and Jim is a good guide.
You can get a train to Lagos from Faro, it takes about 5 hours I think but is cheap as chips.
