Has anyone here booked flights to Canada, specifically Vancouver, for this year? I'm looking into going in August but the prices are sky high - more than double what I paid for a last-minute deal last year (admittedly in June), and £200 more than August two years ago. Anyone got any tips? What have people been forking out for August this year, Manchester-Vancouver? Cheers.

globespan or air transat are your best bet these days now that zoom have gone bust. Not many cheap deals anymore 🙁

We've just booked Glasgow-Toronto with Airtransat. Don't know what their Vancouver prices are like.

Tried Globespan coz I used them 2 years ago. In '07 I paid around £530 including bike, now it's more like £730 for the same weeks. Might be as cheap as it gets now. Thanks for the tip though. Keep them coming.....

Just tried Airtransat thanks - more or less the same as elsewhere, around £650 without a bike to Vancouver, but all their flights look like Fridays and Saturdays but I'm after mid-week to mid-week. Mind me asking what you paid for Toronto Boxelder?

Globespan coming in at £690 without bike - not far off as cheap as I've seen anywhere for August, and they fly mid week, which is essential. Flew with them in '07 and paid up twice for my bike (£60) to be on the safe side. Anyone flown with them since '07 and/or know if they sting you if your bagged bike weighs over their specified single-item limit 16 kilos? Thanks again.....

Not to state the obvious but have you looked at connecting flights to London so you can get access to the major carriers and the cheaper fares?

To be fair August is pretty much the height of the summer season so prices will always be higher but I've never had to pay more than £400 from London to Vancouver.

Thanks. Tied to August I'm afraid, but at least the weather's mint then, and I might hit Crankworx time. I'll check London out, but I reckon this year things are different. And it will have to be a good deal to be worth the extra hassle (and cost) of getting to and across London with a bike and kit bag. Worth a go though, so ta.

I'm going Manchester - Calgary in July, returning in August. about £1300 return for 2 adults, no frills.

Booked through Canadian Affair, flight is Air Transat IIRC

Its worth checking Air Canada as well.. we've flown with them a few times often much cheaper than Zoom (were).

Air Canada can be hit and miss with some flights being great.. some not so. In fact, from my experience, you know what you're getting with Canadian Affair so even if its a bit average, you're generally not disapointed

AC are feeling the economic pinch right now, so all being well they'll start putting out some cheaper fares to encourage ticket sales. I think that still have fuel surcharges on routes to the UK though.

Also look at KLM from B'ham via Amsterdam.. thats sometimes been an affordable route.. although travel agents will probably get seats cheaper than KLM direct.

Best I ever paid for a summer return was 280quid return incl all taxes on BA.. heathrow - seattle though. Sadly I fear those days are long gone 🙁

Transat seems cheapest right now to Vancouver. There's always Seattle (2-3 hours drive depending on the border) which gives you "better" airlines at the same price.

Transat, Flyglobespan, Canadian Affair etc all more or less the same. In the end we booked with Canadian Affair and to make it slightly cheaper and to allow ourselves the right amount of holiday time we are flying into Calgary and out of Vancouver. Thats arriving at the end of August returning home mid September.

I found flights from Frankfurt to vancouver with Lufthansa were much cheaper last year. Got a flight from the UK to Frankfurt cheap and a short wait in Frankfurt. Good service and plenty of space on the flights too. Might be worth looking at?
