[#2687552]

My son's Avid Juicy 7s have become increasingly useless after a very short life and he is looking for a replacement but as he is trying to buy a house at the moment, they will have to be cheap.Any suggestions please?
By the way are Avids always rubbish or has he just been unlucky? The only 2 of my riding chums who use them have had problems, the rest of us stick to shimano.

Its hard to see beyond the base shimano brakes for value so long as you remember no spares are available.

aah kk 🙂 clarks brakes are good, but they dont give a sharp lock :/ they slow you down, but i would think shimano are more reliable only had my brakes a few weeks 🙂

Shimano Deore's pre bled - merlin are doing a good deal.
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/MTB++Parts/Brakes/Disc+Brakes/Shimano+Disc+Brakes/Shimano+Deore+595+Disc+Brake+Set+-+Front++Rear_DEORE-DISC-BRAKE-SET.htm

We've been fitting these at the shop to replace those crappy giant MPH's and they're brill, no complaints easy to bleed, not that you need to cos shimanos just work. CRC are doing Juicy threes for £50 an end.

Formula Oros from the Formula store... 152 euros plus postage for the full retail kit- rotors of your choice, mounts, hose shortening kits, etc etc. I wouldn't need to think twice at this price, SLX are pretty decent but I replaced my XT brakes with Oros and it was the right choice I reckon- better power, better reliability, just as good feel, and better parts availability to boot.

That said SLX and Deore are not a bad option at all.
