I’m toying with buying a 26” hybrid that’s missing its back wheel / cassette and currently has some old / worn 3x8 on it. It’s a 2012 Carrera subway.
If I pick the cheapest deore rear hub I can find to build a wheel out of I can go 9/10/11 speed with that.
What is likely the cheapest overall option? It’s for pottering along a flat cycle track with a kids seat on so an easy spin gear for hills would be nice but also a reasonable flat pedalling gear.
Not bothered on make or standards - whatever is cheapest. Maybe an 11-36 cassette or 11-34 as long as the smallest front ring is small enough.
Is the current rear hub dead? 9s will go on 8s freehub.
Back wheel was stolen so the guy is selling it. I did facebook stalk him to check it wasn’t an obviously stolen bike but there are pictures over a couple of years of him riding it. The cheap option is just to get another 8 speed wheel / cassette and chain I guess but some of the stuff looks a bit ropey on there.
