Got an old Ragley M74 which I'm looking to convert for 'getting to work duties' (rear rack, full length mudguards, etc).
Would like to swap the Rockshox Recon for a rigid fork. Anyone got any recommendations in the <£100 bracket?
Probably looking for something in the 465mm axle to crown length, disc mounts, tapered or 1 1/8th will work on the frame.
There's lots of forks on Amazon / eBay, and some of the 27.5 or 29er options look the right length. But they're all no-name brands which makes me nervous. There's even some carbon ones in that price range, but I expect the saving is more than made up with the potential for cosmetic dental surgery.
Am I overthinking this? I'm going to work, not hucking to flat. 🙂
I would honestly stump up the cash and get one of the Carbon Cycles Exotic forks. 140ish on eBay new but they do come up second hand quite often. They are great forks and totally bombproof.
Identiti do one, £120 on ebay
I have a pair of Kenesis ones i'm about to take off a Mrs Blackflag's bike. Straight steerer and mounts for both discs and v brakes. PM me if interested.
Secondhand is the way to go for sure
Loads of old steel things to look from from Salsa, Surly, Singular, Kona, Identity, Charge
If you don't need loads of tyre clearance, you can have these for a tenner. Off a genesis Croix de fer.

PM me.
There was a recent thread about rigid carbon forks where a few of us got our oar in....

@squirrelking - approx 62mm between the legs. Very gentle taper. I was using 700x40mm tyres with more than enough clearance.
