Last night, on my way home. There is that quiet piece of road, which is pretty steep, especially at the end bit (I'd say about 15% at least). I was riding up slowly, then I heard some voices behind me. Looked back - couldn't see anything (it was properly dark and rainy). After few seconds the voices became louder and I could also hear that rumbling sound, like a very loud dynamo...
Then suddenly I was overtaken by two chavy-type riders (read: tracksuits, no helmets, no lights) and they were flying up that hill! Really fast, especially the first dude!
The second one probably had his battery running low, as when I got to the top on the hill I saw one dude (the first one) waiting on a pavement, whilst the other one had his bike abandoned in the middle of the road (literally!) and was sitting on a curb trying to catch his breath... ๐
The bikes looked like some of those "Argos mtb specials" with attached electric motors on the seat tube.
I think I'm going to buy one... ๐
Don't. Just don't. ๐
If you want an e-bike get one with a Bosch or Shimano motor in it. The cheap ones are soooo shit it's unreal. And usually illegal.
If you want to go really chavvy and illegal then you can get 2 stroke petrol motor mountain bike conversion kits on eBay.
Just make sure to rev the throttle and do doughnuts around your local scrote estate at 3 in the morning. Revenge is sweet! Braaapppp Braaapppp!!!!!
Dunno about legality, but the only e-bike I've ever like the look of was an On-One fatty with the motor suspended under the BB/downtube from what looked like chain device brackets.
Fraser Scott (Scottoiler inventor) is still bumbling about on a stealth electric MTB I built for him years ago - looks like a full-sus Specialized with a bodged-on electric motor, but it's a 2kW Heinzmann in the back wheel.
That's 10x the legal limit ๐
Ben Cooper- pics. That sounds mental

If it's the one I remember seeing, you really don't want to see the pics!
I borrowed a Specialized Turbo for a quick blast around town in France. It was AMAZING. It felt like I was a legitimate participant in traffic not just a sitting duck.
In all honesty though, I was just buzzing on the novelty of how fast it was especially away from the roads.
