Slightly strange one this.....
The charge Spoon has been my go to saddle for absolutely years. I find them very comfortable and they have given me no issues at all ..... Until now.
I've recently bought one in the digital camo pattern as there were no others available and it's giving me loads of grief.
I'm getting loads of inner thigh rub for some reason I can't fathom.
In the last couple of rides my legs have come back very sore.
It's only happening on my new MTB. I have a spoon on my road bike and have no issues with that.
I'm at a loss as to what is causing it.
Any ideas.
Definitely the same model, not wider or anything?
Different fabric, more friction?
Different clothing and it's not actually the saddle.
Different position which just ends up with rubbing?
I've smooth inner thighs and a highly polished Reverb seat clamp sides. I'm going to suggest the material isn't helping and the seat angle may need a tweak...
To answer a few questions....
I normally get the black leather covered model but they are all sold out.
These are rougher fabric type material.
Not sure if they are available in different widths.
Saddle level set with spirit level very slightly nose down.
Shorts and liner the same as I always wear.
It's very bizarre
Try dressing your schlong on the other side?
What kind of deviant goes against the grain like that?
Pervert.
Swap the saddles over with the road bike to MTB. That will tell you if it's the saddle or setup, assuming you can accurately recreate the setup.
Got fat?
I'd say there is a damned good chance it's the change in fabric material as mentioned that's the cause. Whether another tweak (saddle angle etc) can help with that is another matter.
As Jeffl says I would try one off your other bike to see if it is the fabric.
I have just replaced a leather Charge Spoon for a WTB Rocket so if you want to buy a good condition Spoon drop me a line
I'd try the one off your other bike also to see whether it's the combination of bike and saddle. I have changed bikes and found I didn't like any more the saddle that had previously been my go to.
So the saddles on both bikes are exactly the same material just a different pattern.
The only difference I can think it may be down too (clutching at straws to be honest) is that my current bike has a steeper seat angle compared to any of my previous bikes and I do find myself trying to shuffle back to be further behind the BB ?? pervious bikes have all been around the 74 degree mark where this current one is 76.
Could that be it?
If you're trying to shuffle back then you'll effectively be sitting on a wider part of the saddle which might be making the difference?
I've switched between 'fabric' Spoons and 'leather' Spoons and not suffered any chafing, make of that what you will.
Never had an issue with a Charge Spoon. Have had several, although all leather ones. Wanted a brown one for my HT revamp last year, but they were out of stock everywhere. Settled on a Madison Flux as it looked 'right' - hateful piece of ****. It looks like a Spoon; same shape as a Spoon; change the name printed on the side of the nose and it could look properly like a Spoon; but, it is not a Spoon. So, none of this helps you, or answers your question much, but I felt like sharing. 😉
Clutching at straws here a bit, but are you sure it's the same shape as your other Charge Spoon?
Could it be a knock-off saddle masquerading as a Charge Spoon?
Have you tried putting one on top of the other to confirm they are the same shape?
If it's not that, and the material is the same with just a different pattern, then I'd say it must be down to variation in the seating position.
I managed to get a black 'stealth' Spoon in January - really hard to get. I recon it's the fabric causing it. I only use 'leather' saddles (OK many are artificial, but you get the idea).
I had one of those camo seats with the denim/canvas type of finish. It’s too rough, wore out a couple of pairs of shorts. There’s a reason most seats have smooth finishes.
