Would like to put some 2.25 tires on my bike but the front derailleur is an old type that has a large platform behind the seat tube i can see looking at other bikes i own that newer der's are not like this any one else had to change the front mech to fit a bigger tire ?

A Direct Mount adapter and a DM mech might work for you.

What are you looking for as I might have what you need in the garage?

That's an idea i had not considered thanks.

I am in France so postage may be prohibitive but thanks for the offer.
Actually buying stuff here is a bitch no one holds stock and no decent French mail order that I have found so usually go through CRC

Crc have the XTR versions in their clearance sale for £35 .

I have one on my Cotic Bfe , it's really good.

The new side swing mechs give most clearance. Fine assuming you're happy with the front mech cable routed down the drive side of your down tube (use p-clips to secure the cable on the bottle cage bosses). The mech has an integrated cable stop, so no problem regardless of the stick routing on the bike.

Edit - beaten to it above!
