I got a fox36 on a recent psa on here, anyway took out my rhythm fork, replaced with 140 fox and a new stem and bars,
The hope pick n mix looked all ok so a stripped and clean and regreased
Cut the fork steerer and inserted star nut etc,
Put the crown racer back on and lower bearing into the frame as I slotted the fork into the frame, then put the top bearing on slotted in the tapered ring then 3 shims the o-ring top cap and then spacers stem more spacer and screwed in the top cap light torque, but stem and spacers feel firm
Theres an annoying creaking every so often when I test ride it,
Could I have used to much grease, is the top cap suppose to be stationary or is it meant to turn with the steering as it is turning when steering bars..
This doesn’t seem right does it?
Bearings and parts all seem to be the right way around
Possibly too much grease yeah. Never heard anything from my Chameleon but I’ve had my Hightower develop a couple of creaks and it’s been the headset. A good clean up and it goes. I have cut back on how much grease I use on the frame now as well after some people advising not to use any. And yeah the top cap should turn when you steer
Thanks @antares i did put a lot of grease on, so will wipe it down
