There are a few of us doing a fantastic route starting from Marsden, going through Diggle, Delph the Windy Hills by the M62 to that huge pylon thing and back to Marsden on the Packhorse trail. It's about 20 miles (at least 90% off-road) most of which is v.steep tough/technical climbs and descents so be prepared!

Setting off from the Railway pub 9.30am - All welcome.

Dave

Dave - shan't be joining you as this unfit fattie would only make an ass of himself -
interested though to know the route - Diggle was my home village.... think you can guess where I am now!

I'm guessing - cheeky escape from the village - 1/3way up Wessenden, hang a right, cross a stream or two then head up hill...
Brun Clough res, down boat lane to Diggle...

After that I'm lost to think of much offroad stuff out to Delph though...

Get yourself out! Just bring an extra pack of soreen, u'll be fine. Im going to go up the canal until I get to Hey Green, up the track that joins the A62, up the A62 for about half a mile then up and over Pule Hill (very steep ascent and descent!) For then rest... u'll have to come and find out!

It's certainly not going to be racing pace, too scentic a route and early in the morning to be head down all the way.

Hopefully cya Sunday morning?!

Either don't descend Boat Lane (preferable since it got [s]ruined[/s]resurfaced - cross the road at Brun Clough and take the track all the way down to Castleshaw, then drop into the valley following the stream all the way to the White Lion, or from Diggle head up Harrop Dale, along Harrop Edge to Lark Hill. Descend R to Delph.
Lots of options from there... ๐Ÿ™‚

that's not the cheeky escape from the village ๐Ÿ˜‰

Had a great one around Marsden last night btw. Frightened a huge barn owl at Blakely Res and some doggers at Wessenden Head...finishing with tapas in the Tunnel End. Lovely. Have to meet up some time!

then up and over Pule Hill (very steep ascent and descent!)
know exactly where you are with that........ ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Andy p - have not been down Boat Lane in an age, evidently it's been sanitised..... BOO!
Agree about your other thought though - cross the road from Brun Clough.
Got showed another option to that - cross from Brun Clough - follow track over and back to the road, drop to the A62, cross and hit the track that takes you over lark Hill, right on a short sharp FP directly down the side of the Saddleworth Hotel. Cross over A62, follow Fp sign down a driveway and onto another cheeky little drop to the bottom....

Take it you're local then - more than happy to meet over a beer...

So, i placed my bid for Sunday freedom (rang Mrss MM to check the diary was clear...)
DOH - It has just been pointed out to me that we have guests staying over on Saturday therefore an early Sunday start on my behalf would not be appreciated... especially as I invited said friends.... ๐Ÿ˜€
I'll keep the extra Soreen for next time....
