Hi all.
I am in need of some new chainrings. What alternatives fit the Shimano system as due to no work at the mo, the genuine ones are to pricy.
Cheers Steve.

Deore rings are pretty reasonable. Even consider a whole Deore chainset just for the rings.

I take it they are made of steel? suppose they will last longer than the alloy ones.

Deore middle and inners are steel & outer is alu. Full chainset including BB is 45 notes from merlin.

Just note, the inner chainring for non-HTII chainsets might not fit around a HTII bottom bracket. The tabs where the bolt holes are - these are longer on non-HTII and won't fit over the bearing cup without some serious filing. And being heat treated they're as tough as a T-2000 on steroids 😉

That's a lot better than @ £60 for the XT ones.

mtbtomo
If its only the inner part of the mounting, then a grinder will probibly fit?

paul4stones
How much stick did you give that poor ring?

It took me about 15min to grind down a deor inner ring with a Dremel, just use the old ring as a guide

It's an XT one actually - alloy rather than steel. It's been on a SS but only for about a year . . .
