I have some XT M8000 cranks and am looking for a new chainring.
However, I am not sure what to get.
The crank bolt holes are in a rectangular pattern, not square. I bought a 104BCD Snail ring from eBay, however it won't fit as it has square holes - only two match up.

I am not even sure how to search for the right chainring? If I put the model number in I only get Shimano ones at £60 which I can't afford.

it's called an asymmetric 96mm BCD*

Absolute Black, One Up, Superstar, Shimano, Wolftooth do them, often in round and oval.

* you can also get a symmetric 96BCD but they only fit Sram cranks

Get the shimano one, they last forever due to the steel teeth

If you'd like a blue, 30t Superstar one - pop me a message.

I've just swapped to RF and have one to flog.

Uberbike make really nice asym 96 bcd rings, the hard anodised finish wins over superstar ones, but the superstar raptors work with 12sp shimano HG+ chains.

I’ve just put an SLX one on my XT cranks on my singlespeed. The last one did indeed last forever (well, five years).

yeah i replaced my 11sp XTM8000 with a used-not used 12sp group off a mate that was all XT except the crankset which was Deore M6100(?)

Deore crankset lasted no longer than 3 months: so stuck my M8000 crankset back on with 96BCD asymmetrical chainring from superstarcomponents. its a dream!

I've found Superstar rings last about three times as long as Uberbike ones.

Had two Uberbike rings and both wore shockingly fast, though the last was about three years ago.
