A very STW question to ask and never thought anything about them until tonight...took the inbred out (1 x 10 with superstar NW)... a massive 0.7 miles in gears sound terrible, bike feels like it's "pulsing" if that makes sense...anyway, check it out with my head torch and three of the four chainring bolts have disappeared?! I can't think of losing a single one in the past fifteen years. They were cheap aluminium colourful ones but I have no leg power so can't see they've snapped.
Can only assume one came loose and put more pressure on the remaining three perhaps. Anyone else experience this?
Different lengths of male and female bits. Too long and they do up nice and tight but dont grip the ring. Steel v alu v cheap alu. So not all created equal.
Yes. I use threadlock to avoid this. Also use the steel ones - the alu ones seem particularly feeble. (Not that I have snapped one - they just seem too light)
The only thing Truvativ make that is fit for purpose.

Hex key on both halves. Your knuckles will thank me later.
You'll need oval chainring bolts if using an oval chainring.
Thanks peeps. Friend has some steel ones so I'll pop them in tomorrow and go from there.
I've had a number of Race Face ones work loose over the years. Now always put blue Loctite 243 on them. I generally just go for the brand-x ones now which I've had no issue with.
Velosolo do some great stainless steel ones
