I've finally gotten round to converting a deore m590 triple into a double with a new middle ring (shimano m665 if that matters) and the bolts are too long.
What size do i need to buy from [url= http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/id-cromo-chainring-bolts---single-speed-double-and-extra-large-128-p.asp ]Charlie the bike monger[/url] to fit? Is it the 6.5mm or teh 8.5mm?

I'm pretty sure you want 6.5mm.
8.5mm will be what you've got already.
13mm if fitting a bash guard.

You can in theory get shims that will aloow you to use your existing bolts and make the spider look less like there'a bit missing; Race Face make some; don't know about anyone else.
