Hi chaps,

Is anyone using a chainguide with a 30t chainring?

I'm finding it hard to find a guide that works with a 30t and is either an etype direct mount or an ISCG old...

Cheers

Ricks

Your pretty much out of luck for a top guide - have you thought about one that hangs off the chainstay, like a bionicon?

Using a superstar laser on one bike and an AMg MRP on the other. Both with 30t race face NW rings. One bike has deore cranks one has zee. Both work perfectly

^ Actually thats a point. If you're running this ring on what was a double chainset, you're already sorted (sort of). You may have to run it a bit higher than you might to clear the tabs, but otherwise chainline will be fine. From bike to bike the variation in ISG (yes its supposed to be a standard but its not really) means some will work and some wont, but there's no guarantee. for example anything on an Aeris would rub like hell on a 30T in the big gears, as theres only about 1mm to play with, and you need 2.5.

The MRP AMG comes in 28-32, doesn't seem the easiest to come by but Evans have in stock http://m.evanscycles.com/products/mrp/amg-chain-guide-28-32-tooth-iscg-fitting-with-integral-bashguard-ec045559

What's that 77 designs solo Chainguide thingy? Won't that work?

I have the 77 designs one. It's neat but a bit flexy. Because it doesn't completely enclose the chain it can force it's way out.

No need for one on the FB - narrow/wide

I need it for Enduro races, lost chain = quite a few places lost on a stage.

That MRP micro looks very secure... the AMG looks ideal, with the taco guard too.

The MRP Micro is very quiet with plenty of space, I had a period of where the chain would drop off a few times every ride and ever since its been fitted its not dropped once as you'd expect.

I've just fitted the 77designz freesolo to my 5 as the MRP guide I was using before could go up to a 38T ring meaning the backplate had to be rotated back so as to not foul the swingarm when it wasn't compressed. Meant it rubbed quite badly on the highest and lowest gears.

Freesolo ISCG Old

The freesolo does 28-34T but I found it was near the top of it's adjustment with my 32T on a triple to clear the tabs. As it now sits comfortably in the correct position it clears the swingarm perfectly and I didn't drop the chain once at BPW yesterday. Lovely little bit of kit and well over half the weight of the old MRP one!!
