I'm going with yes but it seems to shift ok.

(Just put bigger chainring on)

Yes.

I hope it's a hardtail!

Yes it's a hardtail.

And new chain on its way now.

Looks a little on the tight side that to me. If it were full suss it would be even worse!

On a hardtail, I would say that's just long enough.

I might be wrong, but I thought that (at least for a hardtail) there just needed to be curvature in the chain at each jockey wheel.

Better safe than sorry if you're not certain but it does look similar to mine (which is absolutely no guarantee that it's right). One of the dangers of too short a chain is ripping your mech & hanger off when you shift into the big sprocket! I try and stick to the approach of wrapping the chain around the big cog and big ring (I still have a triple) and adding 2 links (hardtail).

Cheers.

Think I'll do the wrap it around the big cog check and re-measure it before I ride far.

SRAM instructions tell you how to initially size it but I can't find any useful diagrams that show what it's supposed to look like.

Mine's probably a tad too short according to this.

I always go by the sram instructions/diagram both on ht and fs.
