I have a very stretched chain (daylight between it and the rings) and no chain checker.
Will my SRAM powerlink have stretched just as much or is this made of stronger stuff?
Cheers

Chains (side plates) don't stretch.
Pins and rollers wear.

Makes sense. That's a no then, so that's good, I can reuse it.
Thanks.

The quicklink pins would probably wear just a much as the ones on the chain...

New chain, new quicklink.

Your not supposed to reuse them but whats the worst that will happening?

it might snap under pressure, rip your rear Mech off, go into your spokes, damage your wheel and rear chain stays.

If your chain is that stretched you have had your moneys worth.

How much are they? £3?

your power link will be just as worn as the rest of your chain, bin it. Anyway, SRAM chains come with new links.

Contrary to what some folk will tell you, SRAM power links can be reused many many times. mine get split nearly every week to clean the chain, and they click back together like they were new.

What Rorschach said above: They don't stretch, they wear.

Wow I bin my chain when it starts making a cracking noise/slipping. Powerlinks are used FOREVER.

I bumped into a lad whose rear mech went into his rear wheel on a climb on his newish bike. I wonder how many of us hard-shift chains/mechs?

I'd rather hop off- shift/spin into gear first.
