[#3793439]

i have a dmr trailstar lt which i am currently running as singlespeed. i am trying to change to a 1x9 set up but i am getting myself confused with what chain guide will fit.

I know i have iscg 05 fiting on my frame, i am running a 36t truvativ hussefelt crank which is a double chainring crank but i am running it as a single with a bash guard. the problem is there seems to be quite a bit of space between the iscg tabs and where i imagine the chain guide will sit.

will running a double crank as a single make any difference ? will that cause to much of a gap for the chain device to work ? or will it make no differnece at all ?

i've never used a chain guide or know anyone who has. if anybody has any suggestions or advice, it would be very welcome

I have a triple FSA Power-Pro crank with a 36 ring in the middle position, this is fine so I can't see your double being an issue.
I use an MRP 1X chain guide though, BB mounted rather than ISCG.

Guides sometimes need washers to space them out from the ISCG tabs and line them up with the ring. You'll probably have to put it all together and figure it out as you go along.

There's only a gap cos you haven't got a granny ring. Something like blackspire singer will work fine. Or you can get seat tube mounted ones that look like front mechs but don't move.

would a roller on the bottom be enough to keep the chain on? i would have thought the guide on the top would be the bit doing the work keeping things in place.

i was originally looking at something like this
