No, not the braking compound the pad backing, wouldn't this insulate the pistons and brake fluid brilliantly from heat?

Don't you want heat to go that way? It dissipates it through the caliper and into the frame. It would be a cool night ride effect though to have rotors that glowed red in the dark!

Thats the way for the heat to go if you want to boil your brake fluid.

I don't buy that at all. You'll boil your brake fluid if the heat transfer isn't good enough although it is a caliper design problem and nothing to do with the pads.
