[#9882428]

Just picked up some (used) wheels with Shimano hubs that are for centre lock rotors. This is the first time I've encountered the centre lock system.

I have some 6-bolt Shimano XT RT-76 rotors from my old wheels, i assumed i could just use some adapters to fit them to the centrelock hubs, but a quick Google suggests that I might have the one model of rotor that is NOT compatible with a 6-bolt/centrelock adapter...

What does the collective STW wisdom say???

Google says you can get RT64 Centerlock rotors for the same price as the Shimano 6-bolt adapters anyway…

Centerlock rotors are cheap, but the cheaper Shimano ones are 'organic pads only'.  These do basically work with sintered pads, but Shimano know better than I do.  I use sintered pads, and they were a bit grobbely under heavy braking - I got some fluttering which I didn't think was going to be nice to my fork.  Didn't get this when I put the more expensive rotors on.

*sigh* another "Standard" to get my head around...

The adapters aren't cheap are they?!   I may as well spend the money on new Centrelock rotors and keep or flog the XT rotors.

I have two 180mm SLX centrelock rotors new in the box that came with a groupset that I don't need. I'd do them both for £15 if that'd help.

+1 for new rotors

I took the adapter approach, wish I hadn't.

Heavy

Ugly

specific flush hex bolts they you'll probably struggle to find replacements for when you inevitably have to cut them off

and the interface with the hub is a bit vauge too which results in some movement with the brake on (apparently this can be fixed with threadlock)

Also you need to use a Hollowtec BB Tool with a flat face to fit them (so the Park tool one that fits nicely on a torque wrench is out because the face is tapered), where as the normal center lock - lock ring is a different BB tool that probably has the same issues.
