Hi

What are people using to centralise and lube the pistons. I used to just hold individual pistons in with tyre levers etc but looking at the newer videos the hope guy uses some sort of tool to slot in the caliper and pump the all pistons out at the same time for lubing.

Wondering whether an old disc would be OK in terms of thickness or old pad?

Want to make sure I don't pump em out too much that they fall out
Cheers
Kwack

I just use a pair of pliers to hold one piston in, press the lever gently a couple of times, lube it then use the pliers to push it back and repeat for other piston. Obviously you'd need something else for four pot calipers.

With both pistons pushed back level with the caliper body I align and centre by eye as per the (presumably old_ Hope video then put the pads in and check centring again.

From that video he just uses a small screwdriver on the back of the opposite pad to the piston you want to adjust.

What ever i have lying around, screwdriver/end of a spanner. Will normally wrap in cloth to prevent scratching. Yep, just like the vid.

As for lube, the incredibly expensive silicone stuff they recommend, this stuff;

I push a break block in sideways so it only blocks 2 pistons and grease them 2 at a time.

These brakes have been a massive pain in arse for me. It took me ages to get them right, but it was worth the effort.

I had this ongoing issue with mine, hold the opposite piston while you pump the the lazy one out carefully, them clean it with an ear bud and brake fluid. It takes a few goes before they're equal. Eventually I changed the seals before selling and replacing with Guides... They seem much more powerful and less faffing needed.

Thanks for all the replies. That's what I had done previously as in one or two at a time

Thought maybe doing all four at a time would be a smarter approach.

Will carry on what I am doing then

Cheers
