Our old combi is probably needing to be changed in the coming months, so I'm starting to look for something new. Currently I have a Potterton so, all going well, provided Potterton haven't changed their pitch and outlets, then it would be pretty simple to put a new one in and then get it professionally commissioned. And if the outlets need a little moving, it's really not much of a problem.
Anyway, I have enough space to go down the route of a system boiler, but not really sure if it would be that much benefit. Yes we have 2 bathrooms but never 2 showers running at the same time. We're use to having to wait for the water to heat up when running a tap, so don't really care if we have to do so again. Any other reason why a system boiler is better?
So, anybody been researching new boilers recently, and what have they gone with?
I've been looking into doing something with my elderly, and probably very inefficient boiler over the last few months.
Unhelpfully (for you) my research has [only] led me towards the outline design of a thermal-mass store system, which'll be fed from a back-boiler in my woodburner, a solid-fuel Rayburn and eventually solar-hot-water (when I'll reuse the heat-exchanger coils that the gas boiler will be using for now). I'd be the first to admit it's not the system for everyone tho'
Good luck finding what you want ... ๐
