He came out riding with the Bog Trotters today and attempted a jump, but ended up going head first into the ground and lying ominously still. Copious amounts of claret, followed by a ride in a helicopter ๐ Pics uploading now. He's texted to say he's been stitched up OK
Glad to hear he's ok.
So what's the total in emergency services costs for the bogtrotters so far this year?

one broken arm
one knock out (me, no A&E)
one aggravated faceplant
He's had a few helicopter rides courtesy of that Cove ๐
That's a great shot though...... 8)
Fek!
Oh yes forgot hope James is OK ๐ฏ
that's a ST mag covershot if ever i saw one!
We knew he was OK when he asked for a female nurse to check out his ribs :o)
...ouch! ๐
When he went so still we did wonder if he'd broken his neck, but most of the damage was caused by the peak of his helmet slicing open his face ๐ He made an awful groaning noise like some wild animal...
That looks like a very very lucky escape. Hope he is ok.
masterpiece of camera timing there
Ouchy. Thats gonna hurt! Been There. Done that. Having your face stitched up is no fun at all
Hope he's ok fella
And that's why donating to your local air ambulance is a good thing - more insurance than charity.
Good to hear he's not properly broken, and a great picture.

no, I just held the button down at 6 frames a second ๐
And that's why donating to your local air ambulance is a good thing
we already donated last year after the incident of a fallen rider on the Hope Challenge, but we'll be giving again!

sfb... did you say 6 frames a second? Any chance of a sequence, that would be great!
Glad to hear he's OK btw.
Yes, I'll post an animated GIF later ๐
Mend fast and well James.
ha, the ambulance lady looks a nice lass i bet u was glad to see her ๐
Pile drive and back wheel to groin interface and he was worried about ribs?
Good to see no serious injuries though I'll be checking back later for the GIF though ๐
After the first post my thoughts were "I hope he's okay" ๐ฏ
.....however, I have to confess that photo made me laugh like a loon... especially once I knew he was fine. ๐
Were that me in the photo, I would use that for every sinlge profile shot from now on.
Yowchie!
Heal quick chap!
Now thats a proper "OOF!" moment, excellent shot sfb
Now thats a proper "OOF!" moment, excellent shot sfb
well, you know, I never want people to hurt themselves, but if they're gonna then I want it all on camera ๐ He'll be here shortly to see for himself...
Ooooooooooooooooofffffft! Glad hes ok!
James here on SFB's pooter...
Yeah, slight mistiming, caught the lip, front end dived and I don't remember how the rest of it went until I was lying there taking stock. As soon as the others phoned 999 they sent the air ambulance (possible head/neck injury).
All stitched up now and generally OK, back is absolute agony (must have torn/pulled something). Huge thanks to SFB for getting it all on camera, the rest of the Boggies for just being there, driving my car home and the support (and pisstaking!) throughout.
And, as usual, immense gratitude to the paramedics and hospital staff - donate to your air ambulance now! ๐
crazy-legs
That's a wierd way to see if you like butter.
good to hear you are ok.
Great photo to go with a few scars too. (Also looking forward to the GIF :-))
Here's to a quick recovery.

SFB's calling himself a celebrity - attention whore extreme ๐
Impressive crash and nice one to walk away from.
Send that photo to casting agencies - you're a cert for a starring role in a zombie film.
Lucky escape there James. Hope the back settles down. As for donations; I support the local air ambulance every month via direct debit. They've helped numerous friends in the past and I hope them to still be there if I ever need them, mtb related or otherwise.
SFB's calling himself a celebrity
No, I'm calling crazy-legs a celebrity. Doesn't everyone know him ?
and nice one to walk away from.
he didn't, he was strapped to a stretcher in a neck brace and slotted into a helicopter!
Breakdancing and cycling don't mix! That top photo is a cracker!
It's a fine line between heroic crash with celebrity status recoverable injuries and paralysis I guess judging by that picture. Glad he's OK but makes you think. Still, we'll all be flying around without a care in the world come tomorrow morning...
I think James is already going stir crazy. He's not interested in the footie. The poor lad came to visit me again (a sure sign of desperation) but I was too busy cooking to entertain him ๐
That's a dead cert for MBR's folk who should know better comp.
healing vibes james
Get well soon James.
meh, at least he unclipped ๐
(mend soon)
Do bogtrotters and their guests get frequent flier miles/ have an account with air ambulance? ๐
Do bogtrotters and their guests get frequent flier miles/ have an account with air ambulance?
the other helicopter passenger was just someone we found lying broken on the trail, while all the other Hope Challengers left him to his fate (or attempted to fall on top of him while rubbernecking). In the 14 years I've been with the club we've called out mountain rescue approx 6 times.
I only ask as the climbing club seem to manage a couple a year (for the past 3 years) and it's a standing joke (if a touch gallows humour).
Glad you're OK James, you're not the first Boggie to fall foul of that particular jump
