[#2326896]

I have to admit defeat, the road specific gearing on my bike is hopeless off road. Can I use an MTB cassette on my x bike with no other changes or do I need to use a specific/longer chain as well?

Cheers

Probably a more links in the chain, possibbly a new rear mech depending on whats on there just now.

Single/double chainring?

Compact chainset with a 12-27 rear cluster atm.

That's what I use on my CX: 34/48 with a 12-27 which works fine for me.
For the Three Peaks CX I swap it to a MTB cassette, 12-34. All it needs is one extra link in the chain.

The rear mech is a short cage XTR which works fine - most road mechs won't do more than 28T though so you may need to buy a new rear mech. Get a short cage MTB one, it'll work with the road cassette as well if you swap it back.

Nice one, thanks. I have a 46t outer ring on the way but it seems I will need to be buying more bits.
