Ok so i have a new wheel and dont fancy digging into the free hub with my current cassette as only the top 3 or 4 gears are attached to a carrier to prevent the digging in. I am currently running a sram chain but everything else is shimano. Any suggestions to stop the problem. I dont fancy going all out to xx level or anything like that.

XT is the standard answer.
Though if it's 10spd, go SLX, they're basically the same only the SLX comes with a steel lockring instead of an ally one, but it's £10 or so cheaper and only fractionally heavier.
