Is a 10 speed road cassette same as 10 speed mtb cassette

Nope one is slightly wider than the other, but i have run an 11-36 MTB cassette with long cage road mech without much fuss.

Thanks jonk that's exactly what I'm planning to do on my road bike so I'll give it a go

Just took a 10 speed Ultegra off a road bike along with a couple of thin alloy spacers and replaced it with an SLX,works fine without the spacers.Couldn't get the lock ring on tight with the spacers.
