Hi Chaps
Hoping you can give me a bit of advice.
I am building a hybrid type mountain bike with 700c wheels just for the road.
I will probably be fitting my xt crankset and xt shadow mech - i am planning on fitting a shimano hg50 9 speed 11-32 cassette but have seen that they also do an 11-25.
The higher gearing would be better for me on the road but i am sure i have read somewhere that the 11-25 is a road cassette and only suitable for road components ie. not my crankset or mech.
Is this correct or will the 11-25 work fine?
Hope this makes sense
Cheers
Darran
All 9s stuff is compatible road/mtb appart from front mechs which in some cases don't play nicley with various shifters.
The mech will just sit further away from the cassette in the lowest gears as it's looking for a 32t ring, not a 25t. Might make shifting a bit woolly but not gameover. You can adjust some of it with the "b-screw" on the back of the mech whcih alters the spring tension pulling the mech against the chain or letting it move up to the cassette.
If it bothers you I'm sure I've a tiagra 9s mech knocking arround somewhere you cna have for a tenner.
Thanks for that thisnotaspoon
