I have a HTC Desire but I don't want to take it out on the bike with me as it is

Touchscreen phones seem a bit fragile

Anyone on here take one out with them and what case do you use to protect it?

plastic job off ebay £4 or so, I'd secure it in a pack if I was riding off road.

Yep. Don't use anything fancy, I just stick it in the water-resistant pocket in my backpack if it's damp out. If it really starts peeing it down I stick it in a ziploc bag that I take with me for gadget protection purposes. Done about 500 miles with it since I got it, including several very soggy rides, and no adverse effects so far.

i looked into what case to use, and seemed to be a choice between leather wallet type cases, where you pull the phone out and use it, or 'hardly noticeable' cases.

i chose the latter as you can still use it without pulling it out of a case all the time. and it doesnt really add to the size. looks more or less the same. its really a case for the back and sides, and a stick on screen protector that you dont notice either.

id be happy enough with it in my camelbak like that.

I have a neoprene sleeve its good fits like a glove and is waterproof.

But if you get water in the open top of it you are screwed.

This one - it makes the phone into a near "tough" one:

Pricey but worth it IMO.

I always think that those skins leave the screen open to impact damage.

I use a wooly phone sock thing, which has so far done the trick (5 months+)

I like the look of that neoprene one above (ebay link).....

I did consider a leather full case with alu insert in the front piece for when on the bike, but thought it might mess up the gps tracking so didn't bother.....

Neoprene one is just what I've been hunting for, just ordered one - thanks m_t_b. I use a ziplock bag if it's really wet.

I wrap mine in bubble wrap and shove it in an MBUK phone sock. Job done. No damage yet. Cheap as Fuk!

I also bought the Case mate one and it's fantastic. Hard case with a gel skin in between that and the phone.

I bought it from Play.com for 14.95.

i use a silicon one that hasnt let me down sofar and put on screen saver.ive dropped it cpl of times and its survived unscathed apaert from dropping it in my cuppa, only went in a bawhair but it was enouh to get the top button wet which rendered it totaly aseless as this is the main way to operate the phone.have a peek on amazon or play or ebay for silicon case only £3.even managed to tie-strap the phone to my camelbak shoulder strap to record the runway at carron valley and worked a treat.

I've got a foldy flip case, with a magnetic closure. I'd not recommend it, as the magnetic closure is perfectly situated to mess up the compass unless you hold the magnet bit away from it. GPS works fine in it though.

Haven't worked out a handlebar case for it yet though - guess that would be something like an otter box.

Hi,

I use a arm band type case strapped to the stem for road rides so that I can see the GPS bike app. I use a MK1 plastic bag to provide waterproofing and so far after a couple of months have had no problems.

On the MTB I just stick it in the Camelbak in its leather case or a wee waterproof case for when it rains.

Apparently the Dahon iphone bike case can be modded for the Desire but it is £30 so a bit steep.

The best case I had for phones before that was the Boxit one but the Desire is too big for it (it would work well for anyone with a Wildfire). Mounted on the stem with zip ties worked well.

Regards

its really cracking the screen that I'm bothered about so it might have to be one of those leather flip jobbies

I just don't like the look of them, its one step away from having it on a holster on my belt 😯

I would like to say, use a ziplock bag! or 2!! My HTC desire had a silicon covering, was in my endura event jacket map pocket when it was pissing down. Took a call, forgot to close the zip up fully, at the end of the ride the phone was soaked. Still waiting for the insurance to pay uop too..

arse biscuits.
