I have a lakedistrict mtb book which shows a route for cartmel fell. As im hopeless at following maps does anyone please have a gpx file i can use?

Use one of the mapping sites to make a GPX? It's no hard.

Why not copy the route onto this [url= http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php ]BikeHike[/url] Then download that GPX?

It's as simple as trace it out and then click save and select GPX as the download option

Its not a case of not being arsed.

Why not get on Bikehike, create the route then let others have a look at it to see if you've done it correctly?
