my daughters after a cheapish bike for towpath/camping/picnic duties, so nothing expensive needed. she looked at halfords and saw some indigo clunker type bike which i thought was unsuitable, as its got cheap sus forks which she wouldnt need.
i remember my missus bought a subway ages ago which she should never have got rid of in retrospect as it suited better than anything she had since.
so, are the subway and crossfire generally regarded as the best type of 'hybrid' womens bike for the money these days? her hips give her a bit of gyp too, so a stepthrough frame would be best i think.
am i looking in the right place for vfm?
thanks
Pendleton Ashwell is well specced for the money, Sturmey 5 speed, no silly plastic parts, comfy saddle and Dutch style riding position, not silly heavy either. They seem to be a rebrand of the "Real Classic" Halfords have sold for years. Me and the mrs have them as town bikes and they are very good. Just put some slime/sealant in the rear tyre as getting the rear tyre off by the roadside can be a real faff.

[s]Gillette, the best a man can get![/s] Laura Trott mountian bike, probably the best lager in the world for £390, for boys or girls (with a saddle change). 😆
think the LT mtb would be overkill for her, suspension forks again, but that pendleton looks interesting.
ill link her to both anyway, see what she thinks.
thanks
just had a look gonz. looks nice enough but before i send her another link to confuse her even more, we wouldnt be able to pick up from manc, so is it a definite collection only?
thanks
In my days at Halfords I sold hundreds of subways and crossfire's. I loved selling them because the customers always loved them and they never came back with any issues. Build quality out of the box was great as well.
Due to the fork the crossfire is a much more upright riding position and the fork itself is heavy and clunky. If you don't need the upright position then definitely go for the subway.
thanks boris, i was considering asking what the difference was between the two, very informative.
My Mrs bought one of these off ebay for about £100 Pendleton
It's not actually that bad a bike TBH, she's not into cycling and likes it.
