A mate is looking for a decent spec bike to join us for local hill trails.

Another mate buys and sells bikes and has a basically new and unused Banshee X which he'll sell for a very decent price.

The spec looks good, frame is actually nicely made and painted. 15mm Bombers, Ario shock, Avid, 317 rims, etc.

So....snobbery aside, it looks a good bike. However, any weaknesses in frame, pivots, etc?

Thanks.

I'd imagine it weighs half a ton, and that frame spares/replacements are rarer than rocking horse poo, but otherwise, as above!

A lot of people slate Halfords, and often with reason, but sometimes their products just do what we all want to see - They get people out on bikes. Some of those people then get in to it more, and buy a new, and better bike. They may just need that start point!

Some issues reported with cracking/snapping chain stays. Wouldn't put me off a dect price one though, especially if it was going to get just general use. Fairly decent bikes them.

I remember I rode one ages back, it was pretty hefty and not the best pedaller but pretty decent overall.

Benz,I,ve had that exact bike for five years.Very good bike, very reliable and unlike what was said above,an excellent pedaller.I haven't needed any frame parts and I suspect the snapped chainstay thing is utter nonsense. All I,ve had to replace was the rear shock but that was a suntour jobby.I admit its a pound or two overweight but It gets you fit.I also think its the kind of bike that benefits from a clean and basic serice after every big ride.Perhaps all bikes do.Any more questions just ask.

Seen a few of them with snapped chainstays even one someone swore was only ever ridden on a road from new.

Would look for something else personally

Got to agree with this really. Not a "bad" bike but I don't see how it would be the best option for a newbie to just get out and ride some trails.

Mines been very good fun and reliable. All for £580.00.I think the people replying here are jealous bike shop bods.Reason, its a couple of pounds overweight but a thousand pounds underpriced.Oh and the silly comments above don't relate to the bomber/mavic era Banshees. But don't let your business interests get in the way of the truth!

I suppose it depends on the "very decent price". Is it worth getting it and swapping the parts out onto a good hardtail? Easier to maintain for a beginner etc? I tried a friends one before and found it heavy and a touch wallowy. But like most have said, it'll get him out biking. Which is the main thing.....

And some people realise that pedalling a bouncy contraption around that weighs as much as a small cathedral, is most un-enjoyable!

Usual snobby bigotry from bike shop slaves and non owners.I don't think this forum can be taken seriously anymore.
