I wouldn't bother eating for a two hour ride. I'd only bother eating on a three hour ride if I was planning to stop somewhere, ie if had the time to otherwise I'd just ride it through - so long as I go out fuelled up of course. I eat on a four hour rides though.

There isn't much actual detail given on the tests done. How many test subjects? Controlled environment?
I tried to go and read the actual paper but it won't allow access.

Two hours does not even come close to being a long ride. My last long ride was 18hrs and covered about 350km.

What a hero.

2 hours is long for some people.

2 hours = no need to eat, 1 bottle of water
3 hours = 1 bottle of sis go, 1 bottle of water maybe depending on how long its been since last meal (often ride from work 5-8) a fruit bar on hour 2.

Seems to work a treat for me. Funny though, I am much more controlled with eating on the road bike. On the mountain bike I seem to shovel loads of crap in and always 'over cater' at events / trail centres etc..
