Hi all, I’m after some advice on carbon seatposts. Currently riding a SC Chameleon with a RaceFace dropper post.

I don’t really find the need for a dropper for my style of riding (apart from lowering the seat to make getting on easier if the hip’s playing up!) and was wondering if a std 31.6mm carbon seatpost would give me a bit more comfort - do they offer any flex in this diameter? If so, any recommendations?

Cheers!

If you are aiming for comfort, shim out a 27.2 one.

That said, a carbon railed saddle, atop a dropper is probably the way to go here. I find small adjustments in the saddle height every now and then better for comfort than a fixed carbon post

Yeah, thinner is better. Consider titanium too if you want comfort.

Carbon seatposts don't like being moved up n down regularly, my raceface carbon I beam instructions advise against regular height adjustments, cant say it's any comfier than an alloy one.

I run two carbon seat posts.

A Cannondale Save in 27.2 and a Hope 30.9.

My advice ..... for comfort go with Ti.

My Salsa Regulator post is infinitely more comfortable that either of the above and not really any heavier.

A layback does help with the flex element but that may not work with your current set up.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Never thought of using a shim actually, I just found a suitable one online. So that’s sorted.
Might try a Ti post to start with then, as somewhere hidden in the depths of the garage I think I’ve got one. Somewhere...
If not, carbon it is.
But another quick question - is a 27mm Carbon post on a mtb ok for a rather portly bottom holding up 100kg?
