I know you kids like to discuss Carbon, so you should be able to tell me what carbon rims there are, where a chap can buy them and what the damage would be?

Thanks!

Damage would be they will break and the shards swim towards your heart where they explode.

NEXT!

Don't.

You'll die.

Seriously.

Carbon fibre barbs to the heart.

Scientifically proven.

Edge Composites - tub and clincher, do an XC rim, with a DH one on the way, not that light

Reynolds - clincher and tub rims available as wheelsets Topo-C and Topo-T respectively

AX Lightness - tub only, incredibly light (220g IIRC), crazy money

DT - most commercially available, clinchers, XRC300 is 320g, there's a cheaper one around too I think

Innolite - XCC250 is a 250g clincher, XC only rim

They're generally all about £400 per rim, and don't achieve very much, for my money alu makes more sense! Innolite are the possible exception for their light weight.

I've seen Syncros ones, but can't find any anywhere?

The benefit I can see is that, subject to not shattering the rim, they won't bend ever, unlike your aluminium rim. So no truing.

Also look cool. Not sure about the death by carbon shard thing, but I'm a pretty light rider, so might chance it!

🙂

Those DT Swiss ones seem light at 330g! Not too bothered about saving weight though, strong please!

if you're a light rider get some stans they do a podium @ 290g for £97 I want the xrcs cos I would expect them to stand up to a lot more abuse. (tho obviously that could be a load of bobbins)

carbon rims do need truing! they work on the same principle as alloy rims

That's heavier than a ZTR Alpine, let alone the Podium.

There are also Ritchey, Bontrager, Syncros and Fulcrum (that I can think of!) which are only available as wheels. I think the Topo rims are available separately, which was why I mentioned them above. Roval appear to be doing some in the next couple of years too, Sauser was using some.
