Hello,
I have a 2009 Trek elite 9.8 oclv frame that is in need of inspection / repair. I was in a slow collision with a van last year and the frame took a knock. I need it looking at and was hoping you guys would have some recommendations?
Should i send it to Trek or will that be a waste of time? Any UK places that do repairs you would recommend?
I guess a word with Trek would be the first thing to do - see if they have a crash-repalcement program if you're out of warranty. Failing that, have a chat with these guys http://www.carboncyclerepairs.co.uk/ - see if a repair will be cheaper/as much/ more than buying crash replacement from Trek (if they do it!)
Trek do offer a subsidised crash replacement, my only concern would be whether they'd give you back the damaged frame if they told you it was written off and you didn't want to pay for the crash replacement(possibly duty of care if they've looked at it and then you ride it, it snaps and you die?), suspect it would be hiding being red tape, but it wouldn't surprise me.
Ring them, or wait for TrekCol to show up!
Buy some carbon and epoxy and DIY!
What http://www.carboncyclerepairs.co.uk/ told me:
Basic rule of thimb is if it don't look broke it probly isn't.you can tap test it all over with a philips style screw driver or even metal handle of cuttlery and your listening for a constant clunking sound and if theres a definate dull thud compared to a clunk toy have a delamination
The probly bit didn't set my mind at rest...
Good thing they repair bikes rather than writing about them ๐

I want a clunk toy!
Just spoke with my local trek dealer and they called me back after speaking with Trek. They will offer me a replacement frame for just over 1k, about 300 off it's list price. Doesn't really tempt me into getting a new carbon frame if I'm honest.
I've dropped carboncyclerepairs.co.uk an email asking for a quote, shall see how that progresses...
Please post up any comedy communications ๐
