Carbon repair?

[#12421866]

So, just found a nice hole on the swingarm of my Orbea Oiz.

It's caused by the internally-routed mech cable coming loose and rubbing it from the inside...

There's no additional cracking or stressing at the edges. Do folk think it's a reasonable candidate for repair, and can anyone recommend someone to do it?

It's not a cosmetically important spot, right behind the chainring.

No idea if it's repairable but try Adrian at Carbon Wasp, he's in Horsforth so not that far away.

Warranty? Carbon repair in Leatherhead have a great REPUTATION. They did a good job on my full suss only annoying thing was they “lost” the photos they agreed to take so I could not make a warranty claim to the Chinese manufacturer.

Judging by what Carbon Repair Works have done for me, that's definitely repairable, but, expect to pay £250 min (without paint)!!

Don't bother getting it painted as it'll cost a huge amount with them. Or do if you can afford it. It's why I will only buy a black carbon frame from now on as any repairs are barely noticeable.

You'll also have shipping costs to factor in. It's a lot of money but less carbon waste in landfill so you'll be going heaven when your time is up : )

Had a repair by Carbon Wasp last year on a broken seatstay on my road bike. Did a good functional repair for £100, with a turn round of less than a week. They don't do paint, but given where the hole is you could touch it up quite easily without it being obvious.

Looks like an ideal candidate for repair.

That place in Leatherhead did my road bike repair on my insurance. Decent work but not cheap.

Had a good, cheap repair years ago by HQ Fibre Products in Norfolk.

Cheers all.

Will I need to strip the rear triangle completely for someone to work on it, or get away with leaving the brake hose in place (obviously the gear cable needs to be removed)?

I think carbon repair requires the creation of a vacuum around the patch so I'd have thought you'll need to strip the whole thing and send them the triangle only.

Carbon Bike Repairs did strip my Jeffsy frame to do a repair on the underside of the downtube, including removing the rear end completely. I could've done that myself if I'd known it would be necessary and saved on the labour cost so I'd give whoever does the repair a call before sending the frame

Well, that was surprisingly pain-free.

Phone call to Carbon Wasp, frame dropped in the same day, picked it up this morning. Looks like a nice job (no painting, but that doesn't matter). Very easy to deal with.

100 quid in total.

Will probably route the cable down the outside of the stay and wrap it to prevent a reoccurrence.
