Putting the stem back on my Whippet and rather than do it up til it felt right ,I thought I'd you clever people for the specific torque the bolts should be.
What the marking on the stem say, always have at least 5mm of steerer above the stem and use a carbon bung as deep as the stem, sorted.
^ this - that's what I do with my eXotic carbon steerer forks
I'll tighten it up the torque but will stop early when it feels right or when the bars won't twist.
The click is so slight on low torque bolts, it's easy to miss and overtighten dur to the leverage of a longer wrench.
I've been struggling with my rigid hardtail with carbon fork and steerer coming lose. Turns out the carbon fork bung wasn't very good.
Just replaced it with a deda one. It grips the inside so doesn't move and is very deep so supports the full size of the stem. So far so good.
