Simple question
Just saw this on my carbon bars.
I can feel it. Bouncing on the bars seems to do nothing to open it or anything.
Of note; the last time the bars were ridden was in october (because I took a pretty huge wanging crash and broke my arm in 3 places and tore all the ligaments that connected my wrist together, but the bike didnt seem to hit anything).
Does carbon get hairline nicks like this?
Sorry that gets sawn in half and skipped. Its bars. I might take a view on a big dent in a frame that its ok/keep an eye on it but anything bar related? Even a JRA bar fail will have you reaching out to help your collar bone fail just intime for summer..
I've crashed numerous times on my carbon Havoc's- they have surface/cosmetic damage but nothing like ^
How good is your dentist?
This is a wind up? right?
That's for the bin.
crikey, cosmetic surface or not, I would NOT be riding that.
What's the Bonty warranty???
Simple answer. Bin it.
Warranty? After a crash?
Cancel, ignore this thread. I just locked the forks out and put all my weight on the right hand side and I can hear tearing.
Jesus wept, that's got seconds to live!
It would be binned at our house, for what bars cost even if you don't buy carbon its just not worth the risk.
bin!
I crashed a pair of Bonty XXX Lites a month or so back during a race, put a dent/small hole in them right by the stem clamp and fairly major scuffing and gouging, but it was hidden behind my flapping number board and I didn't notice until the end of the race 3 laps later! fortunately for me they held together even over the drops but even so ---> bin
When I was 17 I had an I beam stem that had a big crack around it. For some reason in my teenage head I thought it would be funny to ride it at the dirt jumps until it broke clean off, which it did shortly after with me crashing into the ground. Looking back actually it was pretty funny, but what was I thinking? what are you thinking op?
Wrap the in plastic and smash them with a hammer and then put in the bin.
I can hear tearing.
that'll be the space time continuum bifurcating between the future where you keep the bars on the bike, being involved in a crash with flaming ostriches, teeth flying in all directions etc and the future where you quietly bin them, fit some new ones and get on with your life.
BIN!
"Simple question"
Seriously?? ๐ฏ
In my defence in the light of day it looks seriously less serious than the photo implies. Of course, it doesn't now I've torn the bar in half with my bodyweight.
Ehhhh...have you ever had the joy of bars snapping?
It's not something you want, or need, to experience.
A rare demonstration of STW unanimity!
Sell them on the classifieds for more than they cost new?
should have filmed the destruction test and shared ๐ฅ
I'd bag them before you get too much dust inside you from waving them about.
Put a sticker over it and go hit some drop offs
How much effort did it take? And when it did fail (or straight away) was it sudden/in one? (out of interest).
Warning; arsehole tightening content.
Hora - about as much effort as it would take to snap a pen.
Definitely giving my bars a good check over when I get home!
Were they legit Bontragers or the Aliexpress ones?
about as much effort as it would take to snap a pen
Wow
yes..
they are incredibly dangerous
I started using them before carbon was even invented and in a single day I tried 427000 different styles manufactured by 9 million different companies..
Every single bar snapped and killed me and all my family even before I touched it
avoid
very dangerous, shards to the heart, etc
That's only if they go up your bum

What do you mean if?
Just be thankful you noticed before riding with them like that ๐ฏ
Bontrager offers a 20% carbon care scheme on any Trek or Bontrager Carbon (non OEM)product damaged in a crash or accident.
Take the parts back to a Trek dealer and they will give you 30% off the closest replacement product
They want damaged carbon products off the trails...for good reason?
You don't even have to be the original/first owner
Interesting! I wasn't the original owner, but they were real rxl bars.
I mean it was a pretty big crash in the first place. The handlebars and drivetrain are about the only bits that made it to the new bike.
Take the remains to the shop to get 20% off the RXL replacements ....easy as that!
